At Northwood, we offer a “Quiet Christmas Service” each year, acknowledging that December is often a time of mixed emotions. While some are busily celebrating, others are experiencing feelings of loss, loneliness, and sadness. These feelings often cause us to feel ‘out of synch’ with the season. While the festivity of the season can offer a sense of wonder and joy, sometimes we need to pause, and gently ‘be’.
This service seeks to create a safe place to come as we truly are, with all of our emotions, knowing that we are accepted, loved and cared for by God. We believe that it is important to take time to gather, acknowledge where we are, and to know that we are not alone. Our hope is that through the music, scripture and reflections, this service will offer strength and inner peace to all who attend.
You are invited to this special worship service that Northwood intentionally places amidst the Christmas season each year. If you are grieving the loss of a loved one or the loss of a significant relationship, this may truly be a gift for you this season. Perhaps this Christmas is more difficult due to uncertainty and worry concerning health or employment. Wherever your journey is taking you, this gathering is designed to gently offer the birthing of God’s presence as both gift and blessing as together we experience the timeless words of hope from John’s gospel:
“The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it.”
