“A Love that Threatens”

Often the way the gospel is told today, a lot of conflict is glossed over. We hear: stable, shepherds abiding, angels singing, the baby Jesus -sweet love of God. How can a warm gift of love be threatening as Matthew claims it was? Love? Threatening? How?
